Evelyn Williams clip (1995)

Written by appalarchive

In celebration of American Archives month, Kentucky archives are featuring collections that highlight Voting and Civil Rights history. We are pleased to participate by sharing excerpts from our Appalshop’s profile of activist Evelyn Williams (1915-2002). In these clips, Williams discusses her life in mining camps and the racial tensions that raised her awareness of class and race oppression, including a childhood memory of the KKK that haunted her in later years.
